Weusi left a tremendous legacy as an outstanding career educator, starting at the New York City Department of Education (DOE) in September of 1962, then co-founding the African-American. I had been a teacher at Junior High School 35 in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. On Saturday, July 2, 2021 despite the threat of rain, more than one hundred people gathered to honor educator and activist for social justice, the late Jitu Weusi. The occasion was the hard fought renaming of Putnam Triangle on Fulton Street and Grand Avenue in Brooklyn to Jitu Weusi Plaza.
